THE MIRACLE BOOK.
The book is the beginning of everything. From the genesis of the work of Carlo Lorenzini, the instrument through which the adventures of the famous wooden puppet have become one of the most widespread literary works in the world. The book is the symbol through which the project unravels: its pages, arranged in a tight succession, initiate the architectural events that, like a succession of chapters, will characterize the new reality of Collodi.

The “Campo dei Miracoli” allows room for a landmark
incardinated on the dominant symbol. The
Children’s Library thus becomes the element in
which the container and the contents harmonize perfectly.
Leaning in the hollow of Pescia, just where it
finds its great opening, it frames an ambiance of tremendous
landscape value and points out the access
to the town.

A new “Campo dei Miracoli” where the only possible
magic lies in having imagined an urban space
dedicated to culture and leisure, equipped with
child-friendly spaces related to the historical context
and designed envisaging the environmental riches.
The opan pages, covering elements, harmonize with
the river landscape, covering the wide spaces used
for the Auditorium and the library, both slightly
at underground level and lighted by overhead and
lateral openings, divided into areas for laboratories,
reading rooms and media space with transparent
and mobile-multipurpose containers that allowing
subdivisions.

The only element that connects the shores and transports
the visitors to the Library of Pinocchio is a giant
model of the puppet, sitting on the “book” scrutinizing
the old town of Castello and the villa Garzoni.
The circulation of motorized vehicles is completely
reorganized and located away from the historical
center: on the west side it can be accessed by a roundabout
that also allows easy access to the covered
parking space of the library. On the opposite side, on
the way to the historic town, the Library is facing a
paved square where the ancient gora is kept, to create
a playground and outdoor exhibitions.

Facing to this square there is a small children’s theater
located between the walls of an existing house and
the paper factory completely transformed by fully
respecting its formal and typological characteristics,
inside which a multimedia educational stroll is
grafted, focusing on the exhibition of drawings and
toys ending in a real glass “telescope” overlooking
the Pescia valley.
